Do you ever feel like anything you start stops becoming something you’re proud of? As if any sort of action you make happen becomes meaningless? There’s just no point in having that type of hope in ideas that do more hurt than good for you. And in the case of StopTheTires2020, the trucking movement itself is in a standstill , no matter how well-intentioned. The founder of the Facebook movement, Jeremy Rewoldt, has called it quits after seeing that the popularity of the group has become too overly bloated to take seriously. It all just is pointless after the movement became more disruptive than helpful.

The count of members quickly arose to 74,000 since the group’s founding days after the results of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election were announced: Donald Trump would not continue on for a second term. In which case, Joe Biden would be taking over. Being that a large percentage of truckers supported Donald Trump’s policies on logistics, this shred of news came as an outrage. Especially to many of those truckers. Therefore, they started to revolt, while led by Rewoldt. This was by means of refusing to travel anywhere with trucks to deliver non-essential goods to major cities. This was a protest for sure, but unlike other protests that have occurred this year, this barely made a dent on the day intended (Veterans’ Day) in the industry.

Furthermore, they were planning on having a more organized event occur around Thanksgiving.

In an interview with Truckers Independent Broadcasting Network,  Rewoldt goes on to explain why the movement was never intended to be disruptive. “I mean I live in a blue state…” One can’t imagine how somber he must’ve felt about the whole movement he started becoming a monster he never wanted. After all, the group itself was a harmless idea among other truckers at first which blew up into a phenomenon because of Facebook’s privacy policy. “It just gained a lot of traction. There was no way of me controlling anything when it was open to the public.”

What happens now to StopTheTires2020?

It’s yet to be seen but a smaller-scale boycott is currently in talks among Rewoldt’s inner circle.
