Public school community district in Detroit officials has said 92 percent of the students have already returned their consent forms to show they are, in fact, ready to return to in-person classes.

In fact, what about the other 8%? There is one DPSCD representative who did say that shouldn’t be a problem.
The district’s assistant superintendent of communications, Crystal Wilson, has said the DPSCD is more than ready for the traditional return to the classroom today.

“Moreover, we did expect all our kids to be in the schools tomorrow, ready to be back in the classroom” Wilson said.
There are a large majority of students that did consent to a daily COVID-19 saliva test. Also, the district is, in fact, preparing to help the remaining students to actually make a smooth transition as well. Then, a letter did go out to the parents reminding them of the newest COVID-19 protocol.
“In fact, we have not been able to reach to all of our families, then we are encouraging, as the statement did indicate, then the families did bring their consent forms on Monday to school,” Wilson said.
On-campus, there are designated, staff members. Also making phone calls to reach any households they may be out of the loop.
“Moreover, we do have staff who are prepared. Thus they will be on hand tomorrow to help the students to facilitate calling home. Then getting the consent paper which was signed,” Wilson said.
Separate Online School
Students who ultimately can’t get consent will have to enroll in a separate online school that’s completely run by the district and fully virtual.
“Therefore, it should not be a barrier for not actually returning to school,” Wilson said.
Also, students do also have a grace period before being placed into the virtual learning program.
